June Ritual ☀️ | The Fire & The Hearth: A Litha Ritual for the Summer Solstice & Cancer Season

The Summer Solstice marks the longest day of the year, a celebration of light, the sun in its peak expression, abundance, vitality, and all that has come into full bloom. It is a moment to pause and acknowledge the gifts, lessons, growth, and blessings that have emerged throughout the first half of the year.

Within this celebration lies a beautiful paradox, one that sits at the heart of both Nature and the human spiritual path itself. The Sun has reached its highest point. Its peak. And from this moment onward, the days slowly begin to shorten once more.

Nature reminds us that every cycle contains both expansion and return, inevitably. This dichotomy is at the base of the very structure of reality. What rises must eventually descend. What reaches its summit carries within it the seeds of its own transformation, which inevitably includes descent and decay to come, before renewal can take place at all.

The Summer Solstice is therefore not merely a celebration of light, but a meditation on rhythm. At the very moment the Sun stands in its greatest power, the return journey begins.

The Hermetic traditions teach that all things move in cycles and tides. Everything flows outward and inward, rises and falls, expands and contracts. The wise do not cling to one side of the rhythm, but learn to move consciously with it.

Likewise, the Solstice invites us to recognize that growth is not a straight line. There are seasons for blossoming and seasons for retreat, moments of radiance and moments of reflection. Neither is superior to the other. Both are necessary.

To honour the Solstice is therefore to honour the fullness of the cycle itself.

As the Solstice flame burns brightly, Cancer season arrives shortly after, inviting us inward toward the hearth. Toward home, nourishment, belonging, emotional connection, and the things we wish to care for and keep alive.

This ritual is an invitation to honour both:

The outer flame of the Sun.

The inner flame of the Heart.

What You'll Need

While the Litha Ritual Kit was curated to provide the essenitials for a Litha ritual, please know that every item may be substituted with something you already have at home. The intention and your level of presence with the ritual count far more than any specific item or color, witchcraft and spirituality do not ever necessitate you to purchase something or hoard materials if you do not have the means or wish to do so. As you are and what you already have, is enough.

  • A candle - The red candle included in the Litha Gift Box is perfect for working with fire energy, though white, gold, orange, or yellow candles are equally appropriate.

  • Palo Santo and/or a smudge stick - or your cleansing herb of choice will do, rosemary works great during Litha.

  • Fire Incense - the kit comes with Sagrada Madre Fire incense, whose star ingredient is dragon’s blood. Alternatively, you may choose any incense associated with the Sun, Fire, or Summer Solstice themes. Frankincense, cinnamon, rosemary, sandalwood, citrus are all beautiful choices.

  • A citrine crystal - Citrine is associated with joy, vitality, confidence, abundance, and solar energy. Other wonderful options include Sunstone, Carnelian, Amber, Tiger's Eye, Clear Quartz, or any crystal you personally associate with warmth, growth, and illumination.

  • The Seasons of the Witch: Litha Oracle Deck - alternatively, any tarot or oracle deck you feel called to work with at this time will work.

  • A journal and pen - For recording reflections, insights, intentions, and messages received throughout the ritual.

  • Optional: A nourishing drink - You may wish to prepare a warm (or iced, truly) drink to accompany your ritual. Ceremonial cacao, herbal tea, or a Mushroom Golden Latte are all beautiful choices, though any beverage that brings a sense of comfort, warmth, and nourishment is perfect.

Step 1 — Choose Your Time

Traditionally, Litha honours the Sun at its peak.

You may choose to perform this ritual:

☀️ At sunrise, welcoming a new cycle and fresh possibilities.

☀️ At solar noon, when the Sun stands at its highest point in the sky.

Choose whichever feels most aligned for you.

Step 2 — Cleanse & Prepare

Using the sage bundle stick, gently cleanse your space, your body, and if desired, your oracle deck.

Open a window if indoors for ventilation and fresh air, and take several slow, deep breaths.

Allow yourself to fully be in the present moment.

Feel into the energy of this turning point in the year. The warmth of the season. The abundance surrounding you. The upwards and outwards motion of this time of the year, and the acceleration of nature all around that started with the turn of Spring.

Intentionally invite clarity, gratitude, warmth, and illumination into your space, let these energies be welcome into your field and let them land and sit in your body for a while.

Step 3 — Light the Solstice Flame

Light your candle and your fire incense, softly gaze into the flame for as long as you feel comfortable, this can be just a few minutes up to half an hour. Reflect on the season that has brought you here. You can light the candle with a specific intention if wished.

Ask yourself:

✦ What has flourished since spring?

✦ What has grown stronger within me?

✦ What blessings, opportunities, lessons, or connections am I grateful for?

Allow yourself to simply acknowledge what already is. Not what is missing or still needs fixing or is imperfect, just what has already bloomed and is already present and stable inside of your life, not requiring any energy to be maintained. Simply the things that have solidified and come into being, either as solid proof of growth or as energy currents holding your life.

Step 4 — nurture the flame

Take your crystal and pass it through the smoke of your palo santo. While many people use sage or other cleansing herbs to clear stagnant energy and create a sense of energetic neutrality, palo santo is traditionally valued for its warm, uplifting aroma and its ability to help create a grounded, intentional and protected atmosphere.

As you hold your crystal in the smoke, take a few moments to connect with the intention you wish it to carry through the season ahead

Hold it between your palms.

Ask yourself:

What do I wish to carry forward from this Solstice?

Perhaps it is:

✦ Joy

✦ Courage

✦ Honesty

✦ Confidence

✦ Creativity

✦ Commitment

✦ Softness

✦ Unconditional presence

When your intention feels clear, breathe it gently into the crystal, hold it and visualize bright warm light shining through the crystal, as you hold your intention with clarity in your mind and body.

Allow the crystal to become a physical token of the energy you wish to nurture throughout the coming weeks.

Carry it with you, place it on your altar, (keep it in your bra if you wear one ;) or keep it beside your bed throughout Cancer season.

Step 5 — Nourish Yourself

Sip your beverage mindfully, taking in the full flavor profile of your drink of choice.

Perhaps a cup of ceremonial cacao, a favourite herbal tea, or a Mushroom Golden Latte to honour the golden energy of the season.

As you sip, be fully present with your senses, the taste, the smell, the temperature of the air against your skin, the energy currents already going through your body.

Allow your perception to simply allow and take notice, without needing to fix or resolve.

The goal is to be present with what is, as is. Not to become a perfected version of yourself right here and now.

Step 6 — Receive Your Guidance

Take your Seasons of the Witch: Litha Oracle Deck (or your deck of choice) and spend a few moments shuffling as you prefer.

You may ask a question, such as:

✦ What needs to be acknowledged within me right now?

✦ What energy am I being invited to embody?

Or you can go for a blind reading and simply allow the deck to speak freely, and see what needs to come through.

Pull a card.

Before you reach for the guidebook, spend a few moments sitting with the imagery.

Observe what arises; thoughts, memories, sensations, whether you feel pulled towards or resistance towards the card’s energy, notice the way your body responds to it before you are able to form any thoughts at all.

Notice any symbolism that might be relevant or synchronistic to your journey.

Journal your reflections or simply sit in meditation with the card's energy.

Step 7 — Integration: The Fire & The Hearth

The Summer Solstice invites us to celebrate all that has come into bloom; Cancer season reminds us to bring that light home.

Take a few moments to reflect on the journey that has brought you here.

Reflection Questions

  • What has come into full bloom in my life during the first half of this year (since Yule)?

  • What gifts, lessons, opportunities, or blessings am I now able to recognize that I may have overlooked before?

  • What has been illuminated for me recently that I can no longer ignore?

  • What currently makes me feel most nourished, supported, and at home within myself?

  • What part of my life is asking for gentler care rather than greater effort?

  • As the light begins its gradual return inward, what wisdom do I wish to carry with me into the next season of the journey?

Closing

Place your written intention beneath your crystal.

Take a final moment to sit with your candle and the energy of the season.

Offer gratitude to the Sun, to the Earth, and to yourself for all that has brought you to this point.

The Summer Solstice reminds us to celebrate what has blossomed.

Cancer season reminds us to care for what we wish to keep alive.

May you carry both the Fire and the Hearth with you into the season ahead. ☀️🔥🏡💛
